Did
you know the average age of dogs (and cats) in Australia is about 3 1/2
years?
This is way below their biological potential.
Why are Aussie dogs and cats so
young?
Well, sadly a lot don't even make it past their first birthday.
Official data shows the most common cause of death in puppies under 12
months old is euthanasia due to behaviour problems.
A survey in the late 90's showed that if a dog has NOT undertaken obedience
training he/she was nearly 70% more likely to be surrendered for 'crimes'
like being boisterous, toileting inside or showing aggression towards
other dogs and more rarely towards people.
80% of surrendered dogs end up in
doggy-heaven
Most Councils can provide contact
details for local training clubs, or you can check the Yellow Pages for
your State's Canine Council!
Obedience training isn't cruel, and despite what some people say it
doesn't stifle a dog's personality - it's a life-saver! And it's fun.
